Value: $ 40 per person

Sign up for 30 people

Join us for a special night under the stars on Saturday, September 26, 2015. We will meet at 7:30 for wine, cheese and appetizers. This will be followed by a talk delving into the origins of the universe given by Professor Prochaska (8:30 pm) and then star gazing with several telescopes pointed at the night sky. We will choose a location locally with ideal viewing conditions. Bring your warm clothes, comfortable folding chairs, and any questions you have wanted to ask about the universe.

·         Lecture will be geared to adults
·         Location will be local (specific address to be provided via email at a later date)

Biography:
Professor Prochaska's research examines the nature of gas both within and outside of galaxies, primarily during the first few billion years of the universe. The analysis relies on high resolution spectroscopy of distant, intrinsically bright sources (quasars, gamma-ray bursts), using the absence of light to study the metallicity, molecular fraction, depletion, ionization state, and velocity fields of gas in the young universe.

Generously organized by Professor J. Xavier Prochaska
